MicrosoftDue to the rush of everyday life, I ended up not realizing that the renewal of the Azure Data Engineer certification also expired on 05/31/2025, even with the renewal rules within the 1-year period. In fact, the alert emails I received from Microsoft itself indicated the deadline for renewal of May 19, 2025, which followed exactly this logic of one year before expiration — and all this before Microsoft even introduced the DP-700 certification into the scenario.
Honestly, Microsoft could at least extend these renewals that were in progress, respecting the original deadline communicated for each case that followed the process correctly before Microsoft changed the rules.
Microsoft, certification team, please — wouldn't it be possible to reopen this deadline for a few more days or weeks? It doesn't hurt, right?
Another issue is that Microsoft (they also deleted my last message) have given me three different dates. First two in a future date from now. But when I click to renew it tells me I cant due to expired date 31st of March (I went to retake 1st of April but had been told I had plenty of time left).
This is not clear or properly handled. Lot of people in here feel let down.
Azure Data Engineer certification retired at the end of March. Renewal is no longer possible, even if the "Renew" button appears in the UI.

I know it was discontinued, but I didn't know of a cutoff date for renewal because the email notifications said to maintain the 1-year rule, so I would have until May 2025 to do it according to the official emails. On the learn screen itself, they put a "renew by April 5, 2025" and for nothing, that's annoying. At the moment when Microsoft even defines a cutoff, it has 1 year, everything goes to 2026, which makes it difficult to maintain the logical schedule of those who took it in August, October, in any case it will end in 2026. It's frustrating because the email notifications maintained the logical reasoning of several other renewals.
It's a test that I have a fondness for, and Microsoft could extend the test and renewal until 2025, finishing the processes in 2026, because it will end in 2026 what would be difficult to do in March or December.
Simple fact.
That end-of-March date is for the certification itself. The renewal date is pretty much irrelevant.
You could've renewed the certification just before that date and the certification would've still expired in your account on March 31st.
Yes, communication around legacy credentials that customers hold + the Microsoft Learn UX around them could definitely be improved.
