SharePoint Guest Expiry Query
We have recently enabled the 30 day guest expiry at tenant level across SharePoint and have had a couple of queries. Because the minimum days we can set is 30, it is difficult to test.
If access expires for a user, do their permissions get removed from the entire site?
For example, if we reshared with the same external user after their access has expired, would they have access to everything across the site that they did previously (and would the original sharing links still work?) Or would we need to reshare the content with the user again (which will create new sharing links)?
We do not use Sharing Link expiry on this site.

Hey Sam
Thanks For connecting Microsoft- Expiration impact: When a guest’s access expires, their permissions are removed from the entire site, including access via sharing links, unless they have alternative access (e.g., through a Microsoft 365 group).
- Resharing behavior:
- Original sharing links remain valid but are inaccessible to the guest after expiration. Extending access restores the guest’s ability to use these links without creating new ones.
- Re-inviting the guest to the site restores site-level access (if previously granted), but resharing specific content may require generating new sharing links for individual files or folders.
- To avoid creating new links, use the “extend access” option to maintain continuity of access to previously shared content.
