Update management
613 TopicsApps not surfacing after notification click
Hi When I received a notification popup e.g. from outlook, teams or slack and I clicked it, it used to pull the related app to the front. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore. Right now when I click on a notification, the app starts to flash on the taskbar but nothing more. I think this started to happen when I got the 24H2 update. I tried to turn notifications off and on again but it didn't help. Any idea how to fix that?100Views0likes4CommentsHow to remove default camera background filter
Windows11 I desperately need help in fixing the background to the default camera on Windows 11. There's always a background on the camera. This happened when I got the laptop last year when the system automatically updated. I know it's not a zoom background cause when I go to zoom, and click "none" no background, it still shows the same image. it's not going away. I think it's a default camera background of some sort. Ever since then, the only fix I can do is disabling and enabling the camera in "Manage Camera" setting so the background would be gone (about 3-5 times of disabling and enabling), and for a while the background just disappears. Also tried to repair, reset and uninstall hoping it would just be a camera setting problem, but to no avail the background is still there. Right now, no matter how many times I disable and enable the camera, the background doesn't go away. Now I'm stuck with the background for all my online classes. Can anyone please help me in fixing this!!3.9KViews0likes9CommentsWindows 11 update is riddled with bugs
Dear Microsoft team and developers, windows update is slowing down systems and in some cases, crashing them. People in my organisation are gradually moving to apple because of your annoying buggy updates that negatively affects our computers. We are tired, is it an every day thing? We update today, another comes tomorrow. This is annoying. I am really disappointed. I have restarted my computer 5 times because of update and I use a 13th generation Acer Nitro V core i7.41Views0likes2CommentsProgram Data folder admin permissions corrupted - Help please!
Hi, I'd appreciate some help form an expert! My folder permissions in 'C:\Program Data\Dell' folder have somehow been restricted to Authenticated Users (by a Dell Command Update failure or an unfortunate Dell Core Services uninstall), which now limits that Folder to 'Authenticated Users' - read and execute, read, and list folder contents, so software installs can't create new folders and write files. Within the Dell folder there are a number of folders that have full control (SYSTEM, Administrators permissions etc), but some that are ONLY 'Authenticated Users': D3, DTP.DataManager.SubAgent, DTP.Diagnostics. SubAgent, DTP.Instrumentation.SubAgent, ePSA, MyDell Notification Manger, orca, OS Recovery Tool. DTP (Dell Data Protection) main folder and Dell Vault are OK Dell are suggesting I reinstall the OS, but I have a huge number of apps installed and am trying to avoid that - everything else but Dell apps seems to be working. The machine is an XPS15 9520 laptop on Win11 Pro 24H2. I can create new folder 'Dell2' and copy all the folders across and they then have full permissions, but of course I can't copy those folders back into the original folder with corrected permissions... What would happen if I rename the C:\ProgramData \Dell folder to something else and then rename the Dell2 folder to 'Dell', and try again and see if SupportAssist or DCU installs correctly, or could that do more damage? I think some Dell security stuff is in the BIOS but some will be in registry so would that 'notice' the folder its looking for is not the original folder but a different one with the same name? Or is it better to install another user and give them admin privileges and have to login with a different ID for Dell software updates from now on? NB this machine is set up for LOCAL ACCOUNT with a password, WITHOUT a Microsoft account on the machine, though it does have O365 subscription... thanks so much!12Views0likes0CommentsWindows 11 27868 Download error - 0x80070002
Hello, I've had trouble installing the last few insider builds I get this error Download error - 0x80070002. Things tried: DISM SFC Chkdsk Windows Update troubleshooter Reset Windows Update components with multiple scripts Deleted C:\Window\SoftwareDistribution Other Windows updates install no problem just the insider build have an issue. Also if I mount a windows ISO and try to run setup.exe nothing happens I suspect the two issues are related somehow. Thanks in advance, Brian20Views0likes1CommentDWM crash error and can not log into my PC
After trying to update my pc the update installed and prompted a restart. I restarted the pc and while it was trying to finish the installation on startup I saw a message saying something like, "the update didn't go as planned", then rebooted. Since then every time I try to log in I get the following message: "Your session was logged off because DWM crashed. Please contact your administrator for further information and check the event log." Then it resets to the login screen again, so I am unable to login at all. I've tried practically every option in the "Windows Recovery Environment", command prompts, system repair, system reboot etc and nothing is working. Even though safe mode allows my to log in I still get the error message and am unable to do anything. Please can someone tell me what is the solution for this??254Views0likes5CommentsFeedback on Windows 11
I've been a Windows customer since the beginning. I was doing computing back on the TSR-80, when we still saved information on audio tape. However, with the changes in the last few versions of Windows; I feel I can on longer use a Windows product. I've been using a Windows 11 system for several months now, and I've hated every time I had to use it. With the increase in non-optional "optional" and non-removable features; I've decided that it's time to move onto a Linux based system. Sincerely, a former Microsoft customer.11KViews4likes34CommentsWindows 11 Create Recovery Drive
I recently upgraded to Win11 24H2 and when I went to create a recovery drive I ran into problems. After telling Windows that I would like to Create a Recovery Drive including system files Windows went off in search of media and came back and told me i needed a 32GB thumb drive. Tried it without system files and no luck either. No matter what kind of thumb drive 32GB, 64GB, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Formatted NTFS, FAT32, exFAT. Whether I formatted the drive using the file explorer utility, or using DISKPART and cleaning the drive and restoring the partition and reformatting. Nothing worked. sfc /scannow and DISM did't show any problems either. I know I can and i did, use a third party application to create a recovery disk, I would like to use the built in Microsoft tool. Any suggestions??158Views0likes4CommentsWindows 11 May update causing many conflicts
good afternoonish, Alright, will try to make this short but include what I've done technically... oh boy. I've avoided the May updates this month due to a conflict with my applications when I updated. I rolled back and waiting for the later deployments to happen. That was until the other day, when I decided I'd tempt fate and fix anything along the way in the name of progress. I updated to the most recent May, Windows 11 update, this is where im still stumped. So now I sit, Windows 11 Insider build, Beta, and still having issues. I did a fresh stand-in install of the most recent 24H2 windows 11 build. I used DDU and AMD uninstaller to safely uninstall, to reinstall AMD, latest driver. I've gone through and installed fresh Firefox, even though it's not a browser issue now that this state. My issue is that browsers(firefox and Edge), background applications, AMD Adrenaline software, Steam, Illustrator, Windows Mail.. everything will crash randomly, in random amounts of access and leeway. Browsers will either go blank or black screen, and either soft crash (software catches and restores) or until hard crashes.. and just about everything else follows the same suit. Certain games, such as Stalker 2, locks up at cache startup. The first attempt at this update, nothing would launch, so I rolled back to Aprils Windows 24H2 and gave it another 10 days. After hearing about a hotfix I decided to try it, and after the 10 days, and it felt like everything worked. Thats when I noticed all these crashes happening.. so I did the stain-in update to see if that fixed it and I did need to do some leftover system cleaning anyhow... and thats part of why I cannot roll back to Aprils build that worked. I know, I thought I could fix it and do some late spring cleaning at the same time. I've watched EventViewer to catch things, but end up chasing rabbit holes that are kinda pointless, and when your browser crashes anywhere from a range of 15 seconds to 3 minuntes, kinda makes things a little frivalous. I am fairly versed in computers and programming, certainly not the average, but at this point I feel like I'm running in circles. I'd gladly reinstall Aprils version of 24H2 if I could find the stand-in ISO, but at the same time, I like moving forward. Ran sfc and DISM restores, everything checks good, though DISM restorehealth hangs at 62.3% for a bit. Passed with 0 errors of a memorytest too. All windows diagnostic processes that I could think of checked things as okay. So to sum it up, visual applications across the board soft or hard crash. Also random screens of black occur. Its kinda like a conflict between graphic drivers, but cannot track it down. I had to compose this in notepad, because it is one of the few stable applications that seems to run. Let me know what logs I can provide to help get to the bottom of this. I hand built this rig and haven't had any issues with it up till this latest set of system updates. quick spec overview; CPU - 12700k MB - strix z690-a = bios 4101 RAM - ddr4 64gb GPU - AMD 7900gre Sapphire Pure boot system is on a m.2 Windows Insider build - 26120.3964 ge_release191Views1like2Comments
